Cao Cao’s Rise to Power (last updated Mar.12)
Time to start a new exciting volume of Sangokushi. Hope you’re all enjoying it so far. I’ll add in the character info at the beginning later.
And chapter 47 is out. You really are too nice, Liu Bei… To note a minor difference from the original novel, Zhang Fei is outraged by the fact that Lu Bu calls Liu Bei as his “younger brother” at the end of this chapter.
Chapter 48 is out, detailing a rather different and quite shortened version of the Li Jue/Guo Si affair. But I think Yokoyama’s trimmed version is actually pretty good (maybe I’m just being biased).
Chapter 49 is now out.
To go a little off-topic, I have finals coming up this weekend so don’t expect too many chapters this week.

———————————————————————————————-
Another week, another volume of Sangokushi! Now, although I’ve said that this manga is very faithful to the original novel, there are still some things cut out so I’d like to take some time to mention some of the more important or humorous ones that didn’t find their way into Sangokushi. Spoilers ahead so make sure you’ve finished reading volume 8 first.
1) In chapter 42, the story briefly mentions how Dong Zhuo’s general took control of Chang’an from Lu Bu after Dong Zhuo’s death. When these remnants of Dong Zhuo’s army took over the capital, they killed Wang Yun to avenge the death of their lord.
2) In the original novel, Cao Song tries to escape with a concubine of his when he sees that Zhang Kai and his men are out to kill him. Unfortunately for Cao Song, his concubine’s obesity hindered his escape and was thus caught. Moral of the story is: Never escape with fat people (unless you use them as bait or something).
3) Sangokushi doesn’t go into too much detail about Cao Cao’s numerous talented and loyal men so I wanted to note some of the people he managed to recruit after suppressing the rebellion in chapter 42. They are: Xun Yu, Xun You, Guo Jia, Cheng Yu, Yu Jin, Mao Jie. I’m probably forgetting quite a few more but the point is that Cao Cao had A LOT of charisma and skilled retainers.
4) The original novel says that Cao Cao killed many innocent Xuzhou citizens and dug up their graves as he and his army marched on to kill Tao Qian. Cao Cao, definitely not a man you ever want to fuck with.
5) Lu Bu shows his stupidity and Cao Cao displays his sheer luck when Cao Cao’s army was lured into Puyang in the novel, corresponding to The Two Traps chapter. What happened was Cao Cao gets separated from Dian Wei and happens to run across Lu Bu. He tries to hide his face with his hand only to have Lu Bu come up to him who TAPS CAO CAO’S HELMET WITH HIS HALBERD and asks, “Where is Cao Cao?” To this, Cao Cao quickly replies, “Over there.” And thus Cao Cao manages to live another day.
There are a few more notable omissions like Ma Chao fighting rebels, or Taishi Ci making his appearance but their roles in the novel are still yet minor and I can understand why Yokoyama cut those parts from volume 8. Don’t worry, you’ll see them within due time.

As some of you Furuya fans know already, Anonymous Delivers has been scanlating the manga Litchi Hikari Club. It seems that they were running into some problems, one being the lack of a translator, so I decided to help translate. Chapter 4 is finally out and hopefully, more will be on the way soon. For those of you who haven’t heard of this manga yet, I can’t really say much other than the sexy characters since I’ve yet to finish reading it, but here’s a short synopsis taken from mangaupdates.
A group of nine boys (called the Hikari Club) are intent on making the Ultimate AI. The attractive leader of the club, Zera, is a twisted man polluting the minds of the club members to make them do whatever he pleases. Tamiya, the original founder of the club, wants to reclaim the club. Niko, the second in command, is pissed off at Jaibo, the one obsessed with Zera. They kidnap a schoolgirl, but the AI Litchi falls in love with her and she with him, and things get messy.
You can download all 4 chapters here and some Litchi-related 4koma can be found on the Anonymous Delivers site.
Lu Bu and Cao Cao (last updated Mar.04)
And it’s time to begin Sangokushi v08. Chapter 40 puts the close on another arc of sorts in this epic historical tale. Poor Lu Bu. He may have betrayed a lot of people but I can’t help but pity him in the last page of this chapter… In any case, as the title states, there’s going to be a lot of Lu Bu and Cao Cao for the remainder of this volume so look forward to it!
On another note, I added a cast of characters at the request of an anon to help first-time readers remember who’s who. It’s not a comprehensive list, but it should cover the major characters to keep in mind. I’ll update it with each new volume from now on.
Chapter 42 is out. Gee, I wonder what this chapter is about…? Chapter 43 is now out as well.
Chapter 44 is out with Dian Wei making his appearance at last!
Legend of the Chinese Heroes Volume 07
………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
And the 7th volume of Sangokushi is out! Another interesting volume in which the first half included the first death of an important character (expect a lot of people to die in this story, ;_;) and the latter half detailing history’s greatest example of how one should put “Brethren before Wenches.”
You know, as much as I find Lu Bu to be a man of no moral principle in RotK, I can’t help but feel sorry for him as he’s strung along by a mere 16 year old girl. And speaking of Diao Chan, for those of you who don’t know, her existence is debated upon by historians but most would agree that there indeed was a concubine/handmaid that came between Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu.
Well, I hope you enjoy the volume!

Here’s chapter 35 which starts off Sangokushi v07. Poor Liu Bei finally catches a break and Sun Jian is out to settle his vendetta. Should be able to finish up v07 by the end of this week if all goes well.
Chapter 36 is out and Sun Jian shows his superior tactics. As expected from the supposed descendant of Sun Tzu.
And chapter 37 is out. Talk about a death flag…

Historie, Waters, and Mirai Nikki(?)
Historie chapter 60 is out, expanding on the interesting split personality of Alexander the Great. Seems like Iwaaki might be using this to create his own version of the mystery behind the death of Philipp II.
Waters chapter 4 is out but as for this month’s Mirai Nikki, there seems to be some special short to celebrate the manga’s 50th issue. So instead of actually getting chapter 50, it seems we only get these 4 pages. I’m actually not too sure if we’re really not going to get a chapter this month so I’ll be on the lookout for raws for the next week. But if there aren’t any raws out on the internet by then, it’s should be safe to assume that there really is no Mirai Nikki chapter 50 this month. If anyone knows any better, feel free to tell me.

Fuck yeah, only needed a day and a half to translate all of volume 06! And what a volume it was, with manly men giving their lives for their lords and Zhao Yun kicking all kinds of ass. Look forward to volume 07 coming your way soon, which will deal with the famous fictional beauty, Diao Chan.
