Sangokushi Volume 06 (c29-34)

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Fuck yeah, only needed a day and a half to translate all of volume 06! And what a volume it was, with manly men giving their lives for their lords and Zhao Yun kicking all kinds of ass. Look forward to volume 07 coming your way soon, which will deal with the famous fictional beauty, Diao Chan.

I’m confused at the ending of this volume.

How can they be so easily fooled when they had just temporarily disbanded after trying to assassinate Deng Zhao (I hope that’s his name)? It’s as if everything that has happened in the past two volumes never occurred.

    It’s Dong Zhuo.

First things first, the request technically came from the Emperor so if Gongsun Zan and Yuan Shao didn’t reconcile, it would be equivalent to treason.

Secondly, you have to understand those two only reconciled because neither of them had the resources or manpower to continue on fighting.

Also, both Yuan Shao and Gongsun Zan are not noble men. Yuan Shao, especially, is a massive dick as you saw in this volume and even Gongsun Zan is not the most righteous man as he had no qualms about agreeing to Yuan Shao’s plan to take over Jizhou by force. I don’t believe that those two really cared THAT much for the good of Han, unlike the Liu Bei of this manga. So a chance for these two to make peace, regardless of having suspected Dong Zhuo to be behind all this, is not all that hard to believe.

Lastly, SHIFTING ALLIANCES. These men were never all that close to begin with. As you saw in volume 5, Yuan Shao even refused to send rations to his other ally, Sun Jian. For all their noble preaching, the alliance to bring down Dong Zhuo was never a tightly formed group or anything. Expect to see a lot of shifting alliances throughout this manga. Especially from Lu Bu, that manwhore (I still like him though).

Ah, that makes sense. I assumed that they’d assume it came from Dong Zhuo since they knew (I thought they knew?) he was basically the emperor. I suppose this manga is a lot deeper than I gave it credit for.

Yeah, a lot of this RotK is still based on actual history so don’t be so quick to assume that it’s half-assed writing.

I’ll haven’t read this manga before but I’ll give it a try. Thanks :)

In Yuan Shao’s defense, he was indeed a very competent and noble man until around THIS moment. I get the feeling most of the dickish things he started doing were mostly due to advisor pressure, when his hatred for the Ten Eunuchs and Dong Zhuo were (or rather, might’ve been) very true.
I really liked this volume. These events exterior to Liu Bei and Cao Cao’s adventures are the ones most easily forgotten, but they are also very interesting and really give depth to the setting.
I have to thank you again for this wonderful read, Hox.

Yeah, I see. I guess it’s another example of power and pressure getting to one’s head. But man, do I hate those Yuan brothers.
